On Friday, 25 November 2016, Apollo111 opened another space for independent theatre in Bucharest, founded by actor Bogdan Dumitrache together with Cătălin Rusu, Călin-Peter Netzer and Dragoş Vîlcu.

”We chose Apollo 111 because it suits the mission of the cultural hotspot of BRD, Scena9: creation of a stage on which the new generation of artists and cultural leaders could express themselves, manifest themselves, create. We support this project because this is a space of cultural action, fresh, informal, typical to artistic talent. A talent that will sketch the portrait of the new young, unbuttoned artist, paying attention to the world around him/her and its problems, who succeeds in creating powerful artistic shapes. We want to learn from this new generation, we support it, making Apollo 111 a representative pennant-place of the contemporary Romanian culture”, Flavia Popa, Secretary General of BRD, said.

”BRD - Groupe Société Générale is the partner that believed from the very beginning in the idea of Apollo 111 and gave us confidence to go on. When you are at the start of such a project, each confirmation is a step forward. Our collaboration gave us to possibility to launch Apollo 111 into the cultural universe of Bucharest and we promise not to stop until we become the most important cultural space in Bucharest” - Bogdan Dumitrache declared.

Launching the new theatre was made by presenting the show ALI: Fear Eats the Soul (by R.M. Fassbinder, directed by Radu Jude). The play deals with contemporary subjects, such as immigration, love, prejudice and Arabic culture. These are the main ingredients of the love story between two completely different people: Emmi, a woman about 60 and Ali, a Morrocan immigrant, 25 years younger. Getting beyond all the taboos, the two decide to get married.

At the first three performances of the show, BRD and Stage9 distributed invitations sending the audience to cultural events in 2017.
